Strictly Athens
Although I'm VERY EXCITED for fall, it's 83 degrees tomorrow... so only feels right to squeeze in one more guide from euro summer. Can't forget Athens...Good Stuff to do, eat, see & where to say!
Consider this a strict recommendation to add a night or two in Athens on your next Greek Island adventure. The food is absolutely incredible, the city is filled with really cool boutiques and vintage curations, and of course you gotta see the sights at least once!!
HOTELS.
We were here for a wedding, so actually stayed in Vouliagmeni Beach at the beautiful Margi. It’s by the water, but just 30 mins outside of the city. A boutique, family-run hotel, the Margi had a great central pool area and spa, farm fresh breakfast spread, but a little pricey for size of room (they each did have a balcony though!) I’d recommend if you want to stay by the water and have a beachy experience, but if you are getting that later on your trip, you may want to stay in Athens. I’ve heard great things about the Mona, Shila, and Monument!
FOOD & DRINK.
Food in Athens is SO GOOD. My only regret is not being able to try more!! I had a life-changing tomato during my solo lunch at Manári Taverna and ordered a freddo cappuccino every opportunity. Coffee in Greece is just too good. Another thing you gotta have is yogurt (strained from sheep’s or goat’s milk) drizzled in lots of honey. I wish I got lunch at Diporto (no sign no door), drinks at Wine is fine, and dinner at Pharaoh or ΛΙΝΟΥ ΣΟΥΜΠΑΣΗΣ ΚΑΙ ΣΙΑ… Here is the full list (and map) of good stuff:
